In the last 8 kilometres of this stunningly picturesque run I came upon a guy with a no logo
race pack. That’s strange! We exchanged the usual pleasantries, you know the kind: “ok,
I’m done now, why are we running around this damn lake…” that type of thing. The magical
part of the race was behind us, the final slog was in front of us. I was eager to get to the
finish line where my longest friend Margie was waiting for me. But then I met Josh, he was
so chill, taking in the vistas and loving his trail time without any noticeable need to smash it
out to the finish line. We shared some mixed chocolates, mucked about, laughed and I
forgot about my mood. Ultimately, I got to the finish line and embraced gorgeous Marg.
Josh came and stayed with us at Marg and Andy’s house in Hobart and it was here that I
came to learn about the no logo race pack. Josh is from Louisiana and works for Arc’teryx in
Vancouver and it was there that he was shown the fabric and the tools to make himself his
own race pack. Josh and I message each other regularly and it feels like we have known
each other for many years and yet it hasn’t even been 1. Josh plays in the mountains, and
he laughs out loud and he was a significant contributor of my Best Time out there on the
Overland Track Ultra.
